In this article weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ll look at the legal issues that arise in work places and in particular at Fort Lauderdale Public works department where employees have recently made complaints about the toxic work environment (Ariel 2014).A group of employees have made numerous complaints and finally filed charges with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission where they alleged that the public works department is a very hostile environment to work in. The main legal issue that has led to this complaints is discrimination at the work place with regard to age as the older employees complain that they are not accorded equal treatment with the young employees.The older employees get demoted and disciplined without any reasonable grounds. Even the positions that they fill are frequently shuff led since they are managed by unprofessional managers who rarely make timely decisions and do not give them proper instructions on carrying out their duties. Black employees are also discriminated against by being left to undergo demeaning and humiliating behavior. This kinds of discrimination create a counterproductive working environment for the employees as it negatively affects their ability to perform their duties.Any form of discriminatory practice within the work place will affect the job satisfaction of all employees regardless of whether they are the ones being discriminated against. Bonuses, promotions and benefits should only be awarded based on each candidateà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s qualification and performance of their duties at the work place. If any of the employees constantly observes that promotions are given based on race, age, gender or other discriminatory factors, then their motivation to advance within the organizationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s performance will be negatively affected.I t will also affect loyalty, turnover and commitment because employees are likely to leave the organization for the fear of being laid off or demoted anytime. Some will stay but will want to be permanently employed, which means that they will not want to be committed or stay loyal to the business than someone who wants to develop a long term career with the organization.Discriminatory practices also affect the organizationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s reputation within the State in which it carryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s on business and the people it serves.
